However, it lags far behind the leading European countries — Germany, France and the UK. This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association Andriy Konechenkov.
By the pace of commissioning of new wind power plants, in comparison with other countries of the post-Soviet space, we overtook all. If compared with the growth rates in Germany, France or Britain, then we are moving like a turtle, — said Konechnikov.
To date, Ukraine has launched 505 MW of wind power capacity, with 138 MW remaining in the occupied territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and another 87,8 MW remains in the Crimea. For comparison, in the UK, the total power of wind power exceeds 13 GW.
However, in the 2018 year, power companies will build new wind farms in Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. The total power of new stations will be three times the power of 2017 installed in the year and will exceed 200 MW.
